[edit]DescriptionI Am CDC - Matt Stockton.webm |
English: I've been with CDC for fifteen years. I work in the Entomology Branch, in the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria. I am the deputy of the bug branch. My job is to keep the entomologists, the biologists, the chemists, and the health scientists out of trouble. After college, I joined the Peace Corps and went to Africa. I got sick a lot. I experienced firsthand what the lack of public health can do to an individual and to communities. That’s what led me to a career in public health. Here at CDC, we have a state-of-the-art insectary where we house all our bugs. We do research on these bugs to better understand how they spread disease. The insectary’s a really cool place, so people want to come visit. It gives us an opportunity to highlight what CDC does. If I didn’t have to work, I’d be a stay-at-home dad. I have a six-year-old boy and a sixteen-month-old girl at home. I think that being a fulltime father would be very rewarding. I love my job because the entomologists I support are doing work that actually saves lives. CDC protects America's health, safety, and security. What we do to support this goal is study the world’s deadliest creature—the mosquito. I’m Matt Stockton and I am CDC.
