Summary
[edit]DescriptionI Am CDC - Diana Toomer.webm |
English: When I began my CDC journey in 1990, I had no idea my love for communications and my interest in biology would merge in such a wonderful way. As a health communication specialist, I develop messages for CDC-INFO agents to use when responding to questions from the public and healthcare professionals. CDC experts provide written answers to many anticipated health questions, and CDC-INFO develops scripts from this content for agents to share directly with inquirers. CDC-INFO does not give personal medical advice; it’s designed to answer frequently asked questions on numerous health topics. During the 2014 West Africa Ebola epidemic and later, during the 2016 Zika outbreak, CDC-INFO played an important role in the agency’s efforts to calm fears, dispel rumors, and provide accurate information. In addition to responding to concerns from people in the U.S., we shared our experience in running a call center with public health staff in West Africa to support their work in developing communication channels. We also consulted with CDC China staff and with health workers who were establishing an AIDS hotline in Ethiopia. A key way CDC saves lives and protects people is by providing timely, accurate, science-based information so they can make good decisions and take actions to safeguard their health. I’m grateful to be a part of a communication channel that delivers vital messages to the public and to our health partners. I’m Diana Toomer and I am CDC!
