| Description |
English: Three boys hiking to the overlook at on Wind Canyon Trail in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, overlooking the Little Missouri River and the magnificent North Dakota badlands.
This photo was entered into the "Picture Yourself in TRNP" photo contest run by the Theodore Roosevelt Nature and History Association and won the "Take a Hike" category. It was also featured in the TRNP 2022 Calendar as the June photo. We had been to this location a few years before and had some candid family and landscape shots that we really enjoyed. After seeing the photo contest advertised in the Visitor Center, we attempted to recreate some of the photos there. Of course my kids were not enthused about the photo op, hiking either at lightning speed or a snails pace. Finally I got a shot with them nicely spaced out, and three attempts was about all they would put up with so we called it good and continued on with the hike. This park, after just two visits, has become one of our favorite places to be as a family to enjoy nature. The scenery is remarkable, there is abundant wildlife, and it's a relatively secluded, quiet park (compared to more popular National Parks). |
