Description
Français : La peinture représente une seconde partie de la légende d'Hermès, le dieu grec du commerce et des voyageurs, au moment où il dérobe les troupeaux de son demi-frère Apollon. Pour éviter qu'Apollon le retrouve, Hermès marche à reculons pour brouiller les pistes. Une fois découvert, Zeus ordonne à Hermès de restituer les troupeaux à Apollon. Ce dernier pardonne Hermès en échange de la lyre qu'il a inventée. Hermès sera alors fait protecteur des bergers, titre qui lui est attribué lorsqu'il est représenté portant un bélier sur les épaules. La scène semble se dérouler sur la Terre d'Israël comme la laissent croire les personnages accompagnés d'animaux, d'un navire méditerranéen, ainsi que de feuilles d'amandier, un des symboles du peuples d'Israël.
