Physical description: First copy 1 print : tinted lithograph ; on sheet 46.3 x 59.7 cm. Notes: D.P. Whiting Capt. 7th Inf. ; on stone by F. Swinton.; Publication date based on copyright statement on item.; Includes a key with numbers printed on the right, left, and bottom margins, and with corresponding descriptions printed below.; Title from item.; Caption continues: (Worth's Division" moving into position under the guns of the enemy, after the action of "St. Jeronimo", on the morning of 21st Sepr. 1846); The plates in this series, as numbered, are in reverse chronological order.; Inscribed in ink on bottom center: 204. Deposited in the Clerk's Office for the So. Dist. of New York June 22, 1847.; Printed on lower right corner: [No. 2].; Library has two copies, both printed with color tints; the copyright deposit or first copy includes inscriptions.; Daniel Powers Whiting trained as a topographical artist at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point). He served in the 7th U.S. Infantry under General Zachary Taylor during the Mexican-American War.
