English: Gateshead East railway station in 1977 Gateshead had two railway stations, one on each of the rail routes approaching the High Level Bridge; they were adjacent to each other and the footbridge in the image will have allowed passenger movement between them. Gateshead East closed in 1981, some time later than the West Station which had closed in 1965. The platforms and buildings at the East Station have all been removed but according to the website, Disused Stations' the platforms at West, are / were still in place. |
