English: Photograph titled, "Rock sculpture of Vishnu as Varaha rescuing Bhudevi, Cave Temple V, Udayagiri, Madhya Pradesh," taken in 1875 by Joseph David Beglar. The sculpture, from the early 5th century CE, shows Vishnu as Varaha, his boar incarnation, rescuing Bhudevi (or the goddess Earth). In the side of the panel are shown the river goddesses, Ganga riding the Makara crocodile or monster and Yamuna riding a turtle.
