Deutsch: Bleikugel mit einem Gewicht von 5775,2 kg und einem Durchmesser von fast einem Meter, mit der Philipp von Jolly 1879–1880 in München experimentierte und Newtons Gravitationsgesetz empirisch bewies. Jolly bestimmt so die durchschnittliche Dichte der Erde als das 5,7fache der Dichte von Wasser. („Die Räumlichkeiten, die mir durch die Liberalität der Universitätsverwaltung zur Verfügung gestellt wurden, waren die eines von drei Seiten freistehenden Thurmes. Das Stiegenhaus ist geräumig, die Treppen sind an den Umfassungsmauern in die Höhe geführt und lassen in der Mitte einen freien Raum von 1,5 m Seite und 25 m Höhe. Wage und Ablesefernrohr wurden oben erschütterungsfrei aufgestellt. Von jeder der oberen Schalen führte ein Draht, geschützt durch eine Röhre aus Zinkblech, durch das Stiegenhaus herab.
