Summary[edit]
DescriptionFlying the (U.S.) flag (9966538744).jpg |
With my father, in front of the "residence" where we lived. The flag is on the fender of the car my father would travel in, a 1973 Plymouth Fury sedan. Behind you can see the small shack-0like structure where a militia officer was, as a guard (sort of). 1976? Hard for me to tell. In many countries today, U.S. diplomats who are entitled to fly a flag on their diplomatic vehicle chose not to most of the time for security reasons (and to simplify life, really). At this point in the Soviet Union there were no security issues related to being a U.S. diplomat here and my father's point of view was that "flying the flag" while traversing the city was one of more useful things we could do. |
