Summary[edit]

Description
English: Adalar is the name given to the area on the edge of the Porsuk Stream, which is between Atatürk Caddesi Bridge and Köprübaşı Bridge in Eskişehir.

History Since the entire area between Şair Fuzuli Street, Atatürk Street and Porsuk Stream belonged to one of the well-known families of the city in ancient times, it started to be called "Yalaman Island". After the badger edge of this region started to turn into a travel and entertainment area, the name began to be called "Islands".

Summer cinemas located on the edge of Porsuk in the 1960s were replaced by casinos in the 1970s and amusement parks in the 1980s. Towards the end of the 1980s, the amusement parks were replaced by cafes, and the Islands became a promenade.

Until the end of the 1980s, boats were rented in this part of the Porsuk Stream. After the river was polluted by the chemical wastes of an industrial facility and the sewage water of the city, boat rides became history, and this tradition was not revived after the dissolution of the sewerage infrastructure of the city and the reclamation of the river.

However, with the improvement works and landscaping carried out in recent years, gondolas and excursion boats have been put into the service of the public in the part of the Porsuk Stream passing through the city center today. In addition, a park called Kentpark, right across the Eskişehir Bus Terminal, and an artificial beach and pond on a branch of the Porsuk Stream were created in this park.
