Description
English: LIBI_00012_07537; A black-and-white photograph of Eddie Gray holding a revolver that his father, White Elk, seized at the Custer battle, mounted on cardboard with typewritten inscription surrounding image. The inscription reads, "White Elk, a Cheyenne Indian warrior seized this revolver from a white man killed in Custer’s last battle. Most of the soldier revolvers of that time were colt 45['s], but there were a few of these Remingtons among them. The nickel-plating of this one indicates it may have had pearl handle grips and that it belonged to some officer or some civilian. This Indian(picture), known as Eddie Gray, is a son of White Elk, who died many years ago. Revolver obtained from this son, June 19, 1927."; print, photographic [mounted on card]; Courtesy of the National Park Service, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, LIBI_00012_07537, Thomas B.
