- L'utilisation d'une échelle graphique permet d'obtenir directement une cote sans avoir à faire de conversion. Exemple: pour 10 cm à l'échelle 1/5 je lis 10 et je vérifie (cette mesure représente bien 2 cm à l'échelle).

- Echelle des triangulations: prenons pour exemple la réduction d'un dessin quelconque. De G tracer la droite GK= 7 cm perpendiculairement à cette ligne. De K comme centre, ouverture 15 cm, couper la ligne horizontale en E. Diviser EK en 15 parties égales. Reporter chaque division parallèlement à EG en GK. Les 7/15 èmes de la cote E2 seront G2.

- Autre exemple: utiliser le même procédé pour réaliser une perspective axonométrique.
