The diary documents Edward Preble's trip with George and Samuel Mixter to Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Montana, North Dakota and Washington in May - November, 1910. The route traveled often followed rivers and other waterways. Entries are dated, and locations are sometimes noted by the date. Pages are numbered. The notebook contains observations of campsites, vegetation, mammals (caribou, marmots etc), birds listed with common or scientific name, and terrain (river flats, plateaus, rivers, glaciers, canyons). Preble references reports being sent back on some locations. Distances covered is sometimes recorded. Includes an index to mammals (with page numbers), and lists of birds sighted as well as a loose insert of birds collect in British Columbia by Preble. Locations are noted by geographical location, ranch, or town name. Some locations include Culbertson, Poplar River, Glasgow, Telegraph creek, Klappan Flats, Spa-tse-zu River, Ha-datz-e-ta-le pass, Findlay River, Fort Grahame. State or province is often not noted with town name
