Notes
  • Significance: The pueblitos are small multi-roomed masonry dwellings found in the Navajo homeland, or Dientah region of northwest New Mexico. Dating from the early 17th century, the pueblitos are significant indicators of the complex social relations that existed among the Navajo, Pueblos, and other tribes with the Spaniards. Foothold Pueblito built between 1720 and 1737, consists of a small structure built on a monolithic sandstone talus boulder with associated masonry room unit at the base of the boulder and two possible detached rooms. Its "columnar" masonry construction method it typical of the pueblitos. The name of the site refers to the set of footholds carved in the face of the boulder below the north-facing door. Significant features include several intact roof vigas and the footholds leading to the top of the boulder.
