A Cserenkov-sugárzás geometriája. A sugárzás (kék nyilak) a részecske v sebességéhez (piros nyíl) képest θ fokos félnyílásszögű kúpfelület mentén halad. β = v/c, n a közeg törésmutatója. Az ábráról látható, hogy: ${\displaystyle \cos \theta ={\frac {1}{n\beta }}}$

English: Please note, this figure shows the ideal case of no dispersion, which means that the refractive index n is independent of the wavelength ${\displaystyle \lambda }$. In reality n will depend on ${\displaystyle \lambda }$ and hence the wave front (governed by group velocity) will no longer be perpendicular to the direction of the radiation (governed by phase velocity).

Deutsch: Bitte beachten, dass diese Abbildung nur den idealen Fall ohne Dispersion zeigt, also Brechungsindex n unabhängig von ${\displaystyle \lambda }$.
