Photographer
State Government Photographer
Title
Corner of Tynte and O'Connell Streets, North Adelaide
Description

The image shows the north east corner of Tynte and O'Connell Streets, North Adelaide most likely 1917. The building shown are the previous premises of James Hogg, a baker and confectioner who had been on the premises since the late 1880s. The writing on the window indicates that Hogg had moved next door, to a single fronted shop at 106 O'Connell Street. In 1918, the corner with new premises was occupied by the Adealide Meat Store. Hogg was fined on several occasions for selling underweight loaves and underpaying staff (Register, 27 April 1904, p4; Daily Herald, 3 May 1918, 27 August 1920, p2). The image shows the tram line, telegraph lines and electric light wires.

The State Library of South Australia holds this image (SLSA B1846) and a later one (1923) of th same corner (SLSA B88).
