This is a copy of a letter dated from Newport, Rhode Island on Feb. 23, 1869 from Thomas Wentworth Higginson to Charles Allen. Higginson does not want the Attorney General to remove any of the trustees of the Jackson bequest. He says it would not be becoming to the dignity of a philanthropic organization, would alienate the friends of the removed trustees, and it would not be just where the trustees "are evidently not acting factiously." Higginson says that according to the terms of the Jackson bequest, organizations seeking to enfranchise the African American have equal rights with those seeking to educate him
