May informs Foster that the Board of Managers of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society directed Foster not to sell William Goodell's "Slavery and Anti-Slavery" before they learned of his resignation. May states that the resignation was therefore not accepted. May adds that he cannot understand Foster's determination to sell the book. He asks that Foster meet with those individuals who could attest to the falsehoods in Goodell's text and inquires as to how many copies of the book Foster has sold
