Summary[edit]

Description We reached the ancient city of Chinguetti. This is a revered place of learning with many famous libraries the like of which does not exist in the rest of Western Africa. The city has three parts. The original was swallowed up by the desert which continues to encroach on it. The second is the old town where the libraries exist. The third is the modern settlement where most people live, and where we rested up. This road links the two parts of Chinguetti. It is heralded as a holy Islamic city. A vital part of the trade posts across Africa many of its families grew rich enough to create their own libraries to store knowledge (for even back then, knowledge was power).
