Summary

[edit]
Description

Captain Edward Wright of Dallas, Texas, displays his tin hat which was punctured by rifle fire from the Japanese defenders at Arawe. The two holes are plainly visible, New Britain, December 1943. The M1 helmet, the helmet used by the United States military from World War II until 1985, was actually quite effective against long-range bullets. While during WW1 the primary concern was shrapnel exploding overhead, -the reason why the British helmets were not as useful as the Americans ones in WW2- the new warfare pushed also new designs, and in 1941 the M1 replaced the Brodie helmet.

12/1943, Harold George Dick
