Colourisation (colorization) of originally black and white photographs may give historically inaccurate results. Photo manipulation and retouching involves transforming or altering a photograph using various methods and techniques to achieve desired results. Hand-colouring of photographs (or hand-coloring) refers to any method of manually adding colour to a black-and-white photograph, generally either to heighten the realism of the photograph or for artistic purposes.
