[edit]DescriptionCaernarfon Castle Queen's Gate, Caernarfonshire, Wales - 02-09-2014.jpg |
English: The Queen's Gate of Caernarfon Castle, Caernarfonshire, Wales. Caernarfon Castle was constructed between 1283 and 1330 to defend the notoriously rebellious area of Gwynedd, which King Edward I of England had recently conquered. This is one of two entrances to the castle, the other being the King's Gate, which leads directly from the town; by contrast, this entrance would have allowed direct access to the castle without having to go through the town of Caernarfon. The gate was never completed, however, and the stone ramp that would have allowed access by it was never installed.
