Summary[edit]

Description Bookplate of w:Henry O'Brien, 8th Earl of Thomond, Baron Ibrickane (1688-1741). Created Viscount Tadcaster, in the Peerage of Great Britain, in 1714. He married in 1707 Lady Elizabeth Seymour, daughter of Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset. He died in 1741, without issue, and was buried in Limerick Cathedral. On his death all his titles expired, as his next heir was a descendant of Daniel O'Brien, 3rd Viscount Clare, who was attainded in 1691, so the three titles became forfeit. He left his substantial estates in County Clare to Murrough, Lord O'Brien, the young son of his cousin, William O'Brien, 4th Earl of Inchiquin. On Murrough's death in 1741, the estates passed instead to Percy Wyndham, a nephew of Henry's wife, who took the additional surname of O'Brien and in 1756 was created Earl of Thomond. Heraldry: O'Brien (of 4 quarters) impaling Seymour (of 4 quarters).
