Object history

Das Rad ist Sinnbild der Einheit, Symbol eines neuen Kreisbewußtseins. Der gewellte Schildfuß steht für die Breite der Seenlandschaft. Das kreisrunde Rad über dem See ergibt, wie ein „redendes“ Wappen, das Wortspiel vom „Bodensee-Kreis“. Als Symbol der Sonne weist das goldene Rad auf das milde Seeklima hin, die heraldische Farbe Gold erinnert an die goldenen wogenden Ährenfelder, an die gold-gelb reifenden Äpfel und Trauben. Das heraldische Silber kann auf die schneebedeckten Gipfel der Alpen hinweisen, die zu uns herüber grüßen. Die Zahl der acht Speichen symbolisiert acht größere Flüsse und Bäche, die das Kreisgebiet durchqueren: Argen, Schussen, Rotach, Brunisach, Lipbach, Deggenhauser Aach, Salemer Aach, Seefelder Aach.

Auch gibt es im Kreis acht Verwaltungsgemeinschaften mit Sitz in Friedrichshafen, Überlingen, Tettnang, Markdorf, Meersburg, Salem, Kressbronn und Heiligenberg.
