Blå rökelsebrännare föreställande Qilin, 1620-talet.
Nyckelord: Qilin, Rökelsebrännare, keramik
Description
Svenska: FIGUR.
English: Figure. Porcelain figure of a bai ze decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. Ming dynasty, Wanli period (1572-1620). A large model of a bai ze with raised paw and open mouth imitates bronze incense burners of the late Ming. However, unlike a bronze censer the head is not a separate piece, and there is no mechanism for inserting incense, so this constitutes a figurine rather than an incense burner. Bai ze (literally meaning “white marsh”) are auspicious beasts, said to have helped the mythical Yellow Emperor control hauntings and attacks by supernatural beings. Thus it is a protective, intelligent and lucky creature.
