Title
English: Bird's-eye view looking south from vicinity of 2nd & Madison showing 1st Ave and tideflats in distance, Seattle, probably between 1906 & 1910
Description
English: The 10-story Lowman Building at 107 Cherry Street was completed in 1906 (lower left). The Safe Deposit Building housing the Kenneth Hotel can be seen across the street on 1st Ave. Seattle Electric Co.'s plant can be seen spewing smoke to the right.

  • Subjects (LCTGM): Cities and towns--Washington (State)--Seattle; Wetlands--Washington (State)--Seattle
  • Subjects (LCSH): First Avenue (Seattle, Wash.)--Aerial photographs; Seattle (Wash.)--Aerial photographs

The point of view here has to be west of First Avenue South, which runs straight north-south, whereas Seattle's streets north of Yesler Way run at an angle to the compass grid. Any building at Second and Columbia (even on the west side, like the Hoge Building, built 1911) will be east of the line of First Avenue South. It appears that the only candidate at a relevant date is the American Savings Bank and Empire Building at the southeast corner of Second and Madison.
