Description
Svenska: FAT. Bräddkanten i brunt. Porcelain dish with cobalt blue glaze, overglaze enamel decoration and gildingQing dynasty, Kangxi period (1662-1722). Complex decoration in this style was popular, because of its opulence. First the dish had cobalt blue glaze blown onto the surface through a bamboo tube, to give an effect called “powder blue”. Shaped cartouches were left reserved in the blue glaze, and the rim was dressed to strengthen it. Then the dish was fired in a high-temperature kiln. Delicate enamelled designs were painted within the cartouches, and the dish was fired again at a lower temperature. Then the blue-glazed portions were gilded, and the piece was fired a third time.
