Summary[edit]
DescriptionAsahel Curtis - panoramic view of Seattle from the tideflats, circa 1904.jpg |
English: Panoramic view of Seattle from the tideflats, circa 1904. At left is roughly northwest, looking toward Magnolia. At right is probably just south of east, looking toward Beacon Hill.
From left to right, left portion: Magnolia, Queen Anne Hill, Denny Hill still largely intact, with the Denny/Washington Hotel. Nearer is the East Waterway with sailing vessels and railroad bridge to West Seattle. Then, as we move right, we see only a bit of Downtown because in the middle ground are buildings in the southern part of the Central Waterfront. Just beyond that, in the distance we see First Hill with the old 1890 King County Courthouse on the "Profanity Hill" southern portion, then buildings visible at center are along First Avenue South, the only really solid land that extended that far south from the Pioneer Square neighborhood at the time; in the distance, part of the long ridge known as Beacon Hill, which had not yet been separated from First Hill by the Jackson and Dearborn regrades. The water right behind the First Avenue South buildings would eventually become the rail stations & today's stadiums. South of that, the water visible here became the Industrial District. |
