Description
Português: No dia 1º de abril de 1977, o general Ernesto Geisel fechou o Congresso Nacional, com base no Ato Institucional número cinco. Geisel usou os poderes do AI-5 para baixar um conjunto de medidas legislativas que ficou conhecido como Pacote de Abril. O principal objetivo era garantir ao partido do governo, a Arena, o controle do Legislativo. O pacote autoritário também acabou com as eleições diretas para governador previstas para o ano seguinte. As medidas foram consideradas um retrocesso na abertura política, compromisso firmado por Geisel ao assumir a Presidência, em 1974. A reportagem de Joseana Paganine, para a seção Arquivo S do Jornal do Senado, relembra este episódio importante da história recente.
