Description
English: Time-lapse microscopy using voltage sensitive dye DiBAC4(3). Time-lapse microscopy of B. subtilis cells stained with DiBAC4(3) over a time period of 17 h. Depicted are phase contrast images (left panel) and DiBAC4(3) fluorescence images (right panel) with a time resolution of 5 min. High fluorescence intensity of DiBAC4(3) indicates low membrane potential levels. Note the overall reduction of membrane potential upon entry into nutrient starvation-induced stationary growth phase. Strain used: B. subtilis 168 (wild type).
