English: “My Dear Cousin,
The great press of business in Haying and Harvest near at hand is likely to prevent as has prevented William going to Waterloo as soon as his Father expected. I thought I would inform thee of it lest thou should stay home on the account we should be very glad to have a visit from thee but suppose thy business is also confining I was pleased to hear thou was able to get so suitable a housekeeper, I hardly know how to touch upon the subject that so deeply affects both thee and us it seems constantly with me it was some time that I did not know that I should be able to keep about, and [we] above it affected my health to such a degree, and my sympathy for thee has been as much as my heart has been capable of. There is one thing we know Dear Cousin we must give her up, and we know not how we shall survive her, then the great and important business is to prepare for death, and that will increase our comfort in life. I hope you will excuse me for writing so little and accept our united love and tender feeling
