| Description |
English: US Army Signal Corps personnel training with Heliograph ca July 1898 while waiting to be sent to Cuba for the Spanish-American War. From "With the Waiting Army" by Irving Bacheller, July 1898, "The Cosmopolitan", page 316. This is a crop of the bottom figure, which is titled: Signaling with the Heliograph. Note the crossed-flags badge of the Signal Corps on their sleeves. This is a tighter crop then the other version I put on Commons: Heliograph US Army 1898 crop.jpg |

| Source | I personally scanned this in the USA from an original of page 316 of the July 1898 issue of "The Cosmopolitan", which I believe was a US publication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmopolitan_(magazine)), and the article this is in: "With The Waiting Army" by Irving Bacheller (I think Addison Irving Bacheller, american journalist and fiction writer, died 2/24/1950). This is the RHS of the photograph titled" Signalling with the Heliograph |
