“Articles of agreement made this th day of August 1838 between R P Hunt of the 1st part and Herman Moss of the second part, witnesseth said Moss agrees to do all the Carpenter & Joiner work to a Brick[inserted] House forty one feet long & thirty four feet wide two stories High and finish every part thereof in a plain and workmanlike manner. The house to be divided or Cut up according to a plan On back of this paper, with rake and cornish, also a wood House 20 feet wide & 20 feet long also a cistern 7 feet deep & 7 feet over the top, all to be finished and completed by the 1st day of December next. Said Hunt agrees to pay said Moss, for the doing and finishing of above mentioned buildings Three Hundred Dollars in manner following vis after Moss does fifty Dollars worth of work then to pay for all over that as the work progresses, always leaving the amt of fifty Dollars worth of work unpaid for untill the whole is finished, when the bals is to be paid R.P. Hunt Hiram Moss”
On back of document:
Drawings of the house to be built. The elevation drawing shows a gable end elevation with a small window in the peak, two chimneys, one on either slope and a wide cornice with returns. The floorplans of the interior shows a central hallway with 2 16 ft square rooms on either side. This layout applies to the cellar, first and second floors. The staircase is 7 feet wide. The following descriptions are written under each floor drawing: “Cellar divided by plank petitions in 4 Rooms & 4 Windows. 1st Story 4 Rooms 4 Stairs up and down cellar 4 Closets 4 Clothes Rooms. 2 Story 4 Rooms & 2 Bedrooms 4 Closets”
