Summary[edit]

Description
English: Tracking a moving target from a stationary position. In this three-part video, the bat is shown tracking a moving insect from a stationary position on a platform. The first segment is one trial of the bat tracking an insect from a view 3 meters in front of the bat. The second segment is a zoomed version of one trial of a bat tracking an insect. In both of these segments, the sounds that are heard are produced by a bat detector that makes the vocalizations of a bat audible to the human ear. The last segment was captured with high-speed video recording and has been slowed down by a factor of ten. Displayed on the bottom is the ongoing spectrographic representation of the bat’s vocalizations. The bat’s vocalizations are audible because the audio has been slowed down to match the recorded video.
