| Description |
English: Aberystwyth harbour dredging. A Caterpillar 725 articulated truck http://unitedkingdom.cat.com/cda/layout?m=65265&x=7 emerges from the Afon Rheidol after being filled with silt from the river bed. There are two diggers and four of these amazing machines in operation. The extracted material is hauled up onto South Marine Terrace and then dumped onto the beach opposite. The material is needed there to counter coastal erosion on South Beach. It is distributed along South Beach by the tides and a northward sea current over a period of a few weeks. This dredging operation is a regular occurrence every 2-3 years during a very low spring tide. Taken from inside the harbour basin 517796. |
