Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pollen seeds of pine tree (Pinus) under microscope

Gymnosperms such as pine do not have true flowers. The male cones are built of scales spirally arranged on a median axis. At the base of the scales are pollen sacs in which pollen grains are formed. Pine pollen grains were preserved in 70% ethanol. With a pipette, pollen grains are taken from the liquid and dripped into the middle of the object glass. The rest of the liquid in the pipette is returned to the glass container. A cover glass is placed, which is lowered at an angle of 45°. In this way, the native microscopic preparation is prepared and it is ready for microscopy. Pollination of pine is done with the help of wind. Because of this, pollen grains are characterized by having two air sacs that help the process of pollen dispersal and pollination.

(Pinus)
