Summary[edit]
Description19 District Building. - geograph.org.uk - 318552.jpg |
English: 19 District Building. This building hides a secret, at the far end there is a slope shaft that leads into 19 District, part of the Farleigh Down Quarry 2nd World War ammunition Depot. This depot is one of three Ammunition Depots within 4 miles and this one is just the largest of the three at 1,250,000 sq ft. of storage space and has districts 12-20 but no 13. Converted in the late 1930's from a Bathstone Quarry (underground) it was in use until the early 1960's when it was closed and left to decay. In the early 1980's it was opened as a museum which we ran for some years before it was bought from the owners by a property developer who closed the museum and then went bankrupt trying to sell it. During recent years it has been badly vandalised but part of it is now used for secure storage. |
