English: Castle of de Albini - Castle Rising, Norfolk
Here in West Norfolk in a good state of preservation stands the 12th century bulk of the Castle in Castle Rising. Building started in 1138 for William de Albini II (the Second) who was Earl of Sussex and Lord of Rising. It is a hall keep castle with accompanying 12th century gatehouse and traces of a Norman church have been found on the site. The Castle was declared a Scheduled Monument on 8th February 1915 and listed Grade I on 21st February 1989. Time photo taken not available. |
