Description View of the free-flowing Gérine in the alluvial zone Bois du Dévin in Marly, Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. The 15 ha river section is listed in the Federal Inventory of Alluvial Zones of National Importance in the category Watercourses. During thunderstorms, the Gerine often floods, causing gravel and sand banks to shift and the banks to flood. When the water level falls, pools and oxbow lakes develop. The dynamics of the river constantly create new habitats for a variety of plants and animals.
