Summary[edit]

Description
English: Band leader Charles A. Prince is probably best remembered for his work as the head of the famous Victor Military Band, who recorded the first Blues number under his direction in 1914 (W.C. Handy's "The Memphis Blues"). Prince also ran a popular studio Dance Band for Columbia who recorded many hits of the day (approx. 1919-1921). Here is one huge hit from 1920 that such bands as Lopez and Hamilton's Kings of Harmony Orchestra recorded. Here Prince's band shows off their stuff as they play this number in a style that has become known as "novelty".
