Video, Audio prizes unclear

I’m not sure how the following prize is supposed to work: "Video, Audio prize: 25 USD, 25 USD". Is it a single prize each? That seems very little compared to images, which seem to require less effort. Or is it the top 15 of each? Then there’s this line at the bottom "There will be 15 winning Pictures/Videos." but I’m counting 18 image prizes (1, 2, 3 and 15 consolation), and what about audio? 2001:18C0:1000:18:60ED:CC82:73E0:F955 06:43, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello ! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This has been fixed on the main contest page. As for the prizes, I agree but this was decided after receiving very low amount of submissions in video and audio category in the contest last year. We hope we can see more media uploaded in different formats. Thanks! Wikilover90 (talk) 12:45, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Ethical considerations

I am sorry to say that the organizers of this contest really lack an ethical overview and cultural originality of what Wikimedia volunteering and principles are. How do you dare to give cash money to the winners? This is how do you consider that participating in free knowledge should be rewarded? I am ashamed of the banners in several wikis redirecting to this project that destroys the perception of non-economical benefits of contributing to Wikipedia. --Xavier D. (Messages) 07:25, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Can't you get the economical benefits ?, WMF needs to pay only the top 15 participants. Rest images are free of cost, WMF makes us sign an agreement while uploading, uploader can't revoke the license. In my opinion these competitions are best way to get high quality content by showing them incentives (cash). You can't get these many images for this amount on stock images website. Organizers lack ethics ? Are you serious? They are working on this project for free, isn't that enough for you. What more do you want ? And how dare you question the ethics of volunteers (they don't get paid for this) ? You think they are working for T-shirts and a piece of paper (Certificates) ? If that's what you think, you don't deserve to question ethics of others. -- Eatcha (talk) 09:08, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
First of all, if the first question that you pose yourself are the economical benefits and you think that incentives like cash are the way to do, then you completely took wrong the Wikimedia projects. Secondly, the WMF has nothing to do with signing any agreement when you upload pictures, Wikimedia Commons is a sovereign project and the WMF just curates it as a server administrator. Don't mix an organization like the WMF with the principles of the project, please. Thirdly, it is a permanent problem of some of the movement members to constantly compare free-knowldege project with profit companies: it is obvious that Commons is not made to compete with stock websites and even less by ofering cash to participants, as Wikipedia is not made to compete with Google. Finally: yes, I do dare to question the lack of ethics of these kind of contests since 1) the moment that they overlap many options of cultural rewards with simple money, and 2) when multiple wikis that face and despise paid-editing are being spammed without permission with banners promoting a contest that their communities have not approved to take place. --Xavier D. (Messages) 12:41, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
@Xavier Dengra: I'd say you are looking for a problem where there isn't any. As a potential contributor, I am not in the slightest offended by the money offer. It's similar to the WLM project - the aim is to draw new contributors AND/OR to reward the old ones. Sure, it would be possible to honor the winners with a badge or a shirt, but frankly, money is far more versatile mean of reward (actually, it even suits an international project better, since not every type of physical gift would be equally useful in various regions - and in the end, those little trinkets will eventually turn to dust-catchers on our shelves). And if this all results into more pictures in our databases... Well, I don't see any problem here.--GeXeS (talk) 16:17, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

How add files manually?

Hi, what template or category i could use to add it manually?. Thanks --Wilfredor (talk) 17:55, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

@Wilfredor: Hello! Thank you for the question. If you do not use the specialized upload wizard, please add the template {{Wiki Loves Love 2020}} to the files so that we can identify the image as part of the contest. See FAQ. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 05:13, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

With all respect, the contest's information lacks in some aspects; for instance, in what quality all sorts of media should be uploaded? Should the pic's sizes reduce? also, I was wondering that Wikipedia is going to use the media in its sites? Is any consent needed for the utilization of the media? Looking forward to your informative response. Best Regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ninmaz (talk • contribs) 19:09, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Ninmaz: ! These questions all have standard answers on Commons, which I guess is why the organisers didn’t mention them. Upload all photos in their original quality and resolution. When you upload to Commons you have to choose a “free” licence, which means you give consent for sites such as Wikipedia to use your images. See COM:LICENSING. GKFXtalk 02:10, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Finalists category

I think it's better to have a category of finalists. As there are huge number of entries, it would be helpful to us to identify selected entries easily. Shagil Kannur (talk) 07:20, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello Shagil Kannur ! Thank you for your suggestion. The mentioned categories are in a way example of the kind of images that can flow in the contest. The main theme is folklore, which in essence is the folk culture of a region. In conclusion, the categories mentioned can give additional idea of what kind of things people can look for that can come in folklore photography (and other forms of documentation). Hope this helps! Prizes - Certificate and T-Shirts

Hello, I want to ask regarding the text: "T-shirts and Certificates to International Team"

Does the "International Team" means us (contributors) or just people who listed in International Team page? If those prize goes to us, you may get quite numbers of contributors here from Indonesia. Thanks! --Joo Nath (talk) 10:13, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Hey Joo Nath; am afraid the “International team” here refers to the team behind the setup of this contest who volunteered and work tirelessly to make sure the contest is well suited to accommodate your entries and many others.. The shirts and certificates is not a compensation but only a token of appreciation for the work they put in to make this work.. But beyond all this; you and every other person from Indonesia have the chance of winning the cash prices stated(1st prize: 400 USD, 2nd prize: 300 USD, 3rd prize: 100 USD) and also getting a post card messages couple with other cash prices; I hope you will be able to carry the message so more folklore images from Indonesia can be share for the contest. Photos in "Folklore" Banner?

Hi, I hope this is the right section. This has been bugging me, but I was wondering if you could give us more information and/or larger images of the photos in the banner that pops up when we visit Wikipedia?

https://i.imgur.com/dA6wZ0y.png

The photos are so small, and I was wondering what each was, but clicking on the banner does not show more information about the photos, nor are there larger versions. (Unless, I am mistaken. In that case I apologize.) I would very much like to see them in their full glory with info, if possible. Thank you all for your time!

@L2212: Done. What you miss is translation administrator rights. Translation admins have an extra link to mark pages for translation. Double check for first time uploader

I did my first ever upload to wikimedia for this contest, here

Tunbao village traditional mask dance in Ming era costumes

Could someone double check I did it right? I am not sure I got the categories right for example, I could find what to choose from Yinwang888 (talk) 19:58, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

@Yinwang888: Thank you for your contribution. A list of all categories can be found here. You can add some of them or create new as per guidelines here. Hope that helps --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 02:15, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

About participation in the photo contest "Wiki loves folklore".

Good afternoon! Among the "Wiki loves folklore" category there is no Kazakh folklore. Why is Kazakhstan not involved? User:Салиха--Салиха (talk) 13:27, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

@Tulsi Bhagat: FYI --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 02:11, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
@Салиха: Kazakhstan is already there on the list of countries on the upload wizard. Please check it carefully, and Kazakh folklore category might not available because there is no content of it's kind. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 09:13, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Update regarding countries

Hello there, I've added almost all countries to upload wizard's "Country where the photo has been taken" drop-down list. Basically, this contest is open globally. Please let me know if there is any issue and/or if any country is missing in the list. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 14:08, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Editing after uploading

I have already uploaded some of my photography in the contest "Wiki loves folklore 2020".Now can I edit the photo captions/descriptions after the final publication? If yes, then what is the procedure? Please help Deypayeli1995 (talk) 04:46, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

@Deypayeli1995: Of course you can (although you don’t have to)—this is a wiki, after all; just pay attention not to remove the contest’s tags. You can find all your uploaded files on this page; if you open a file’s description page (by tapping either the file name or the image itself), you’ll find various edit links to modify various parts of the description. If you have trouble with editing, feel free to ask at the help desk. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 10:10, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

Eingereichte Videos landen nicht bei Wiki Liebt Folklore

Guten Tag! Meine Videos: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hexenfeuer_2015_in_Deutschland_MVI_6770.webm https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Osterbrunnen_in_Berga_(Elster),_DeutschlandMVI_2288.webm https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Osterbrunnen_in_Berga_(Elster),_Deutschland_MVI_2310.webm

Vielen Dank.Kora27 (talk) 16:05, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

@Kora27: kindly add the template {{Wiki Loves Love 2020}} to the videos and they will be a part of the contest. Also don't forget to add {{Wiki Loves Love 2020 country|1=(your country name eg. Germany)}} to your description. Hope this helps. Thanks.
Vielen Dank (using Google translate)

regarding submission

where to submit photographs or videos for participating in the contest? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 14.139.127.162 (talk) 12:04, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

First of all, you have to create an account or log in into Wikimedia Commons—registration is required for uploading in order to prevent mass upload of inappropriate files. After that, you can press the blue “Upload Media” button on the contest main page (or click this upload link) to access the upload wizard of the contest, which guides you through the submit steps. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 14:50, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
