Commons talk:WikiProject Templates/Category scheme

It obviously makes sense to create subcategories of Category:Category namespace templates. It also makes sense to categorize by function. In that regard, I think that Category:Maintenance templates does not get the use it deserves. It should contain something like {{CatDiffuse}} as well as {{Cfd}}. This part of the tree could look like:

Category:Category namespace templates

Category:Category description templates
Category:Category navigational templates
Category:Category maintenance tags

and probably some others I've forgotten. Now let me think about {{Cfd2}} and {{Delete2}} --rimshottalk 12:54, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{Cfd2}} and such[edit]

{{Cfd2}} is only ever used to create COM:CFD subpages, so one part of categorizing is easy: the namespace commons. For the function part, I think it makes sense to create Category:Categories for discussion templates, containing {{Cfd}}, {{Cfd2}} and so on. Category:Categories for discussion templates could go into Category:Maintenance templates. --rimshottalk 13:30, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's a great idea. I actually thought of making a new cat for CFD temps. (and one for DR temps.) but I'm not sure if there's enough to justify it (but with DR there is). I also agree the "maintenance" category is underused, but I was hesitant to make much use of it because it's kinda broad and I wasn't sure how to go about it. I guess it stems from en.wp's poor use of the category name. (compare this and this). But since we don't have nearly as many "clean up" templates as them I don't think it'll be a problem. I'm going to start subcatting out Category:Maintenance templates. I think that will fulfill a lot of the "by function" part for a lot of templates. And thank you very much for your input. - Rocket000 16:46, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

templates which should not be categorised[edit]

{{Editprotected}}

Please update the preload templates bit ("templates which should not be categorised"):

Note: before the fixing of bug 5210, preload templates could not contain documentation, categories, interlanguage links etc - all content would affect the preload output. With bug 5210 fixed, <noinclude> tags now work as expected.

✓ Done I've removed the whole section; it's still available as a subpage; please change it accordingly and I'll put it back if needed. Regards, odder (talk) 20:36, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The subpage is protected as well, so I can't edit it right now. I don't think it needs to go back; it could either be deleted, or have my note on the top above the existing content (maybe a Deprecated tag as well). Rd232 (talk) 21:14, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Eh, I've apparently missed that the page was indeed admin-protected; I've deleted it as requested. Thanks, odder (talk) 22:48, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
