Improvement suggestion[edit]

Hi,

Here are some improvement suggestions:

  1. As a juror, when in image viewer, with a high screen resolution (2560×1440), screen space is mostly wasted on the right side as the picture is left-aligned along the thumbnails ribbon. I would like the picture to be centered horizontally across the page, so that blank space is less distracting (like in Flickr's image page).
  2. As a juror, I would enjoy a "full screen" mode of the image viewer with nothing displayed but the current picture, and keyboard shortcuts still available (kinf of Flickr's lightbox).
  3. As a juror, I would enjoy a direct link to the raw file in addition to the link to the Commons description page.
  4. This one's half a joke As a juror, I would love to use my gamepad instead of keyboard shortcuts!

Regards,

--EdouardHue (talk) 17:22, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, great idea about gamepad! I hope to clean up and opensource the tool soon, so others can join. I saw you are a JVM developer too. Yarl also wanted to add some AngularJs stuff. Actually the UI was written in the learning mode, and maybe is not perfect as I'm not a web but backend developer. --Ilya (talk) 17:33, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Custom or extra keyboard shortcuts to support[edit]

Now it's up to upper one, down to down one, del to reject and space to select. For the latter to instances, imho, it'd be more convenient to use left and right so that you can proceed everything with 3 fingers without moving your hand (unless there's need to write a comment). aswd support won't harm either as it's what people who play games are used to use. Though the latter option is trickier as key values for different layouts differ. It's either these all combinations are supported for everyone, or users are suggested to select one of preset sets of shortcuts in preferences, or users are free to set their own keys and aliases. --Base (talk) 19:13, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Repository[edit]

Where is the repository? --Nemo 13:47, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For now in private GitLab repo, going to cover with tests and cleanup to publish on GitHub soon --Ilya (talk) 20:57, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Do you think that can happen within the next week? WMIT has to pick a jury tool and we're also interested in whether we can customise/extend it. --Federico Leva (WMIT) (talk) 13:20, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

for preliminary rounds[edit]

it would be great to be able to select/reject more than 1 image. it is especially useful for preliminary rounds, when we have a lot of them (smth like our cat-a-lot) --アンタナナ 21:03, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Selection/rejection[edit]

Once image has been selected, I would expect to see an unselect button. Instead, the only way to unselect appears to be to reject the image. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 21:22, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

agree, that will be easy --Ilya (talk) 07:07, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Set user role per round, not per contest[edit]

Now if jury is changed for final rounds, jury for previsous rounds does not show properly --Ilya (talk) 07:26, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adding more infos in filelist mode[edit]

Hi,

Is it possible to have some basic additionnal informations when in filelist mode? For instance, the size and dimensions of the file, name of the author, etc.

ESPC 2015[edit]

Some comments regarding upcoming European Science Photo Competition:

  • I'd also like to be able to see image description.
  • Does this tool also accept various video formats?
  • I'm interested of using different image categories (as written here) and therefor I'd like to know if it could be possible to sort images into separate sets based on added markers within one Commons category. (aka could there be a way to sort images so that jury members could select the best ones in more than one topic)
  • Also, in relation to the last comment, could there be a set view? (to make it possible for photographers to add image sets and for the jury to select the best set) Kruusamägi (talk) 03:16, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Acute problems with the jury tool during WLE-2016[edit]

I would like to share our recent experience with using the WLX Jury Tool for Wiki Loves Earth in Russia 2016. Here is the timeline of our activity and communication with Ilya. I think that it speaks for itself:

  • June 3: reminder to Ilya that we would like to use the jury tool. Ilya replies on the same day saying that the jury tool will be launched "tomorrow or the day after tomorrow", and we will be able to customize it ourselves (sounds promising)
  • June 10: the jury tool is actually launched, 5 days later than promised. I was able to add some of the jurors myself, but it turned out that I could not add people who had been jurors last year. This required that Ilya did something on his side, so the customization appears to be limited
  • June 11 - June 25: first round of grading
  • June 20 - July 5: sporadic (and frequent) downtimes of the server. This complicates the grading and makes everyone angry (very understandable)
  • July 1: following several failed attempts, I finally managed to connect to the server and, to my great dismay, found that I can't extract the results of the first round. The system gives me the list of selected images, but it does not display the grades (last year the grades were shown!)
  • July 1 - July 5: I extract the results of the first round by hand
  • July 5: I try to launch the second round, only to find that the system creates all rounds from scratch, i.e., I can't import the winners of the first round into the second round [basically, the admin UI is there, but it fails to perform any of its functions]
  • July 5 - July 7: several e-mails to Ilya asking to start the second round, or at least tell us when (and if) it can be started. On July 7 Ilya responds "I will do it today"
  • July 8 - July 9: nothing happens, we choose to proceed to plan B
  • July 16: Ilya finally makes necessary changes to the code (9 days later than promised!) By this time we have already completed the second round without the jury tool

Bottom line:

  1. Admin UI was a total miss. It did not add any useful features, and each action had to be supported by Ilya anyway (as last year). Moreover, it is no longer possible to extract the list of photos with grades. What's the point of using the jury tool when you can't extract the result?
  2. Using the jury tool in its current version is the best way to ruin your Wiki Loves contest. All jurors are frustrated, and organizers are frustrated as well by their inability to cope with this situation.

Possible solutions:

  1. Developing a very primitive but transparent grading system that works predictably and stays under our control. This year we did the second round using Excel spreadsheets. It was a bit ugly, but not bad at all.
  2. Finding at least one more person who will be able to administer the WLX Jury Tool and will have time to address users' requests promptly (=same day)
  3. External evaluation of the WLX Jury Tool before next contest starts. If the tool is not fully operational, it is better not used. This year the jury tool was not operational at all. We could have saved a lot of time and effort by doing the grading without the jury tool.

--Alexander (talk) 13:21, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Admin UI is definitely useful. 10 countries used it successfully for more than 1 round. And without my support at least in the sense that I did not update the database with the SQL scripts as before. At least 3 were unsuccessful (Australia, Russia and Spain) and I admit that I should have implemented creating next round it in time for them, but it is one lacking feature of importing selection from previous round that is already present. Regarding list of images by number of jurors that selected it - it is not gone missing, it was not there last year either. It is similar to overall rating for rounds that use rating that was (and still) present, but still a different (even thought similar and related) feature. And you can get this information from the jury tool, as it allows to get selection/rating of each individual juror. --Ilya (talk) 14:46, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have just sent you the file from last year. There was no way to get such a list this year after the first round (as you know, we got bored of it and did not use the tool for the second round). --Alexander (talk) 15:00, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request for the WLM Jury tools:WLX Jury Tool[edit]

Hi, this is Nabin K. Sapkota from WLM Team Nepal and would like to support WLX Jury Tool as our official jury tool for WLM 2016 Nepal. Please accept our request and confirm the procedures -Nabin K. Sapkota (talk) 14:58, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, added your old account to the WLM 2016 campaign. Tell me if you don't remember the password for it. I just implemented a new feature to help with shortlisting - select/reject on a gallery page WLX_Jury_Gallery_actions.png. We tested in on WLM Ukraine one user said it helped him to preselect several times faster. Ilya (talk) 08:30, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ilya, well thanks for the quick confirmation on jury tools. Please reset my old password and send me the new one via e-mail. Really exited to hear about the new feature, as per my previous experience it will definitely help in jury procedure in less period of time and energy. Thanks -Nabin K. Sapkota (talk) 16:30, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OAuth consumer proposal[edit]

Hello Ilya! I'm reviewing your OAuth consumer proposal. It seems that you've included email rights in the proposal. I just wanted to confirm that this is necessary. Does the tool use Special:EmailUser (or rather the API equivalent)? --EpochFail (talk) 00:23, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ilya: I see the consumer is still waiting for approval. I just wanted to clarify this point. --EpochFail (talk) 13:58, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@EpochFail: . Hi, I thought about using API equivalent. The jury tool will send instructions and notification about jury process then. I already have two proposals approved. The one that is not approved has wrong callback URL and I don't need it. Thank you --Ilya (talk) 14:08, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see! I've rejected the irrelevant one. Please feel free to ping me if you'd like a quick review on any follow-up proposals. Happy hacking! --EpochFail (talk) 19:30, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request for access towards the purpose of WLUS India 2017[edit]

Wiki Loves Uniformed services (India) (WLUS) is a public photo competition on Wikimedia Commons for use in the project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. With the support from Wikimedia India Chapter, and the inspiration drawn from Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) and Wiki Loves Food (WLF), this is the first iteration of its kind in 2017. This year, the predominant aim of the project is to increase the count of good images of various uniformed services operating in the Indian sub-continent. For more information, please refer the project page. I being the lead coordinator of the WMF funded project request the tools admins to grant me necessary rights/permissions and also provide me with the steps to use this tool. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 15:30, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gain access[edit]

Hi. I'm organising WLE-LK. How does we use this tool? Is there a page to sign up? Rehman 07:33, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Can an Admin or Organiser also be a Jury?[edit]

Hello. How does an admin or organiser also be part of the jury? Do we have to create a duplicate user? Ping: Ilya, Anton. Rehman 11:50, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rehman: Hi! Yes, you can create another account. You can just add ".2" after your name in the email address, before @ (e.g., anton.protsiuk.2@wikimedia.org.ua). --AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 14:41, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anton, thank you! The above did not work, but after a bit of searching, I noticed that it should be anton.protsiuk+(anytext)@wikimedia.org.ua. Just mentioning it here, in case anyone else have the same need. Cheers, Rehman 01:48, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete rounds and users[edit]

Hello. How can we (as WLX admin) delete rounds and users? I've added some test entries, and I need to remove them now. The admin UI does not have the said options. Ping: Ilya, Anton. Rehman 04:56, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rehman: I think only the developer (Ilya) can delete them. If they bother you too much, please email him. But you can just ignore these test entries; you can rename them so you don't get confused. --AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 13:12, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Anton. I will check a bit more, and decide if to switch to Montage. Cheers, Rehman 02:38, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anton. I've emailed Ilya on 4 July, but have not heard from him yet. Is WLX the official tool for WLE? If so, I believe it would make sense for more organisers have access to key superuser functions... I've posed a YGM note on his talkpage today as well. Regards, Rehman 11:29, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Rehman: Hi. I will ping Ilya over personal channels.
General comments: WLX is not the formal official tool, it's just the tool the international team can provide help with. It surely would make sense to implement the feature we are talking about, and I think this is in the backlog of tasks. Yet, it takes time to implement — while Ilya is a volunteer and only has so much time he can devote to developing the tool. --AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 18:01, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Noted with thanks, Anton. Kind regards, Rehman 01:56, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Testing the tool[edit]

Hello, I am one of the organizers of WLE and WLM 2020 Portugal, would it be possible for me (us) to test this tool? Ping: Ilya, Anton.-- Darwin Ahoy! 22:52, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DarwIn: sure! Can you please drop a line to wle-team@wikimedia.org.ua with a little more detail? We will set up the tool for you. --AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 07:53, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
UPD: I see your letter, will respond there. Thanks for the ping. --AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 08:10, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
