More coverage[edit]

Hi Andy, here's some links to coverage that I've picked up so far. Apologies, but I don't have time to sort through it all. I hope you can make use of it though. Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 11:56, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. Thanks, Stevie. I've taken the liberty of deleting some that I know are alredy on the project page. Hope that's OK. Andy Mabbett (talk) 12:10, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've now moved the section to its own page, Commons:Voice intro project/Coverage, and am shifting your additions there. Andy Mabbett (talk) 12:38, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's great, Andy. Sorry if I created additional work for you! Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 13:31, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Finish pronunciation recorder project[edit]

This Individual Engagement Grant proposal for a recording tool may be relevant; WikimediaUK were also working on something similar. Andy Mabbett (talk) 10:52, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Telegram[edit]

Telegram nowadays is popular enough to be mentioned alongside WhatsApp, if this project is still alive. --Nemo 12:45, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"No advertising, pitching for work, advocacy, proselytizing or politics"[edit]

Is there a place where this rule about "No advertising, pitching for work, advocacy, proselytizing or politics" has been further specified, or elaborated upon? If not, could we establish some more specific rules here? There is discussion on the German Wikipedia about what an interviewee is allowed to say about their work (professional and voluntary), which some claim is 'Selbstbeweihräucherung' ('self-congratulation') in the case of Natalie Grams [1]. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 23:13, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to know that, too. Seems like there's no consensus, at least on German WP? See here (German). - Lluvia-aweiku (talk) 10:59, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The audio recording project has been around for years, I personally have asked people to record their voices and say what they want to say. There is no censorship. I've had people tell jokes, favorite quotes, or just about their history. Nothing wrong with it at all, in fact it has always been encouraged.Sgerbic (talk) 16:29, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Sound Logo project[edit]

The Wikimedia Sound Logo project

Hello everyone,

The Wikimedia sound logo project is in an early development phase -- this stage is for asking all kinds of questions, developing and fielding ideas, finding themes and shaping the direction of the project. Here is a link to the meta page for the project:

Your input is welcome. Thank you, VGrigas (WMF) (talk) 19:07, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting the Category:BBC voice samples[edit]

Hi, I just removed the Category:BBC voice samples from the English subcategory of this project. The explanation page of this initative intends to get people introducing themselves so that the file can be used in the infobox as a summary of the basic information of that person. However, the BBC voice samples are very valuable but do not accomplish this function, as they have been extracted quite randomly from interviews and do not provide most of the time the personal information but only the tone of voice of that person without further context. In my opinion, this category only widens the sample size of the English recording but without added value in the scope we are looking for, so I think it's better to keep it separately. Best, --Xavier D. (Messages) 11:44, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not clear why you thought doing so was a good idea; it was not. The BBC voice samples were explicitly provided as a contrbution to the Voice Intro Project, in English. They were not "extracted quite randomly". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:23, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
