New sections always direct to desktop mode

When attempting to make a new section, even when in mobile it automatically goes to desktop mode. Maybe it would be wise that for those in mobile to make a new section also in mobile. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:32, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: Unfortunately I don’t think we can support mobile better at the moment. It’s impossible to create links with parameters (like &action=edit) without hardcoding a domain name in the link, so the link is either desktop or mobile. Actually there are three cases, out of which two work (more or less) correctly:

• Browsing the desktop site. This works of course, since that’s where the button was designed.
• Browsing the mobile site on a mobile device, without any prior configuration. This sort of works, because desktop links automatically redirect to the mobile site by default when one browses on a mobile device. It’s a full page editor, not the usual overlay, but it works, and works with the mobile skin.
• Browsing the mobile site on a device not detected as mobile, or after having been clicked on “Desktop” in the mobile site’s footer (it’s then stored that you prefer the desktop site). This doesn’t work.

Hopefully the situation will improve with the talk pages project’s New Discussion Tool. This tool is currently desktop-only and doesn’t detect any link except for the Add topic tab at the top of the desktop interface, but making it available on mobile (phab:T270537) is an important goal, while making it handle links from within the page content (phab:T277371) has actually just been completed last week, and if everything goes well, it will be available on Commons (still just the desktop version, and only for those who enabled the Discussion tools beta feature) on Wednesday, July 14. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:41, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Box now looks like area

When creating new pages, users might see:

Wikimedia Commons does not currently have a talk page called ...
To start the page, begin typing in the box below.

But with the latest skins, that former "box" now just looks like an unbounded "area", so maybe say "area" instead of "box". Jidanni (talk) 09:20, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
