Transparency[edit]

To my understanding a non-public record of the IRC is being kept (at least, I read on WikiInAction several years ago about 5 (five) year old chatlogs being made public or something), maybe I'm wrong. Anyhow, does such a level of transparency exist for the Telegram channel or is this more like a non-topic general chat about personal stuff for Wikimedia Commons users? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 18:13, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, the telegram channel is private. Users are free to keep a log of their chats on Telegram, even for private channels but there is no policy for the group administrators to keep logs.
If someone misbehaves, they will be banned from the group, but that's never been needed so far.
If anyone thinks the group needs policies, they should join the group and talk about it. -- (talk) 18:45, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
this is a joke. no other community hides its group and many have public chat histories.--RZuo (talk) 10:00, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OTRS, Arbcom, IRC admin channels, multiple closed email lists. 95% of what is discussed on the group has been chit chat not worth writing at the village pump, but some folks are pleased to be able to ask questions and raise complaints where they are not permanently on record in public forever. -- (talk) 11:01, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that this group has set a 1-day message auto-delete, and I am not sure if this group is active enough to provide help and discuss issues. Stang 14:07, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It was maintained by user "", since they just left without making their works and processes open for any potential successors I'm not sure what to do other than just hope for their return. That or someone else has to take over this group. I don't know how many members it has, though my personal preference is that help should preferably be asked on-wiki, but that channels should exist where banned editors can ask for help so they can return and become productive members (again). How many members does the group have now? Does asking questions in this group help if they don't get answered within 24 (twenty-four) hours? It might be best to extend message deletion to a week or something if that would get more questions answered. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 14:11, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
True. I add {{Historical}} tag on this page; if it is active enough, feel free to remove it. Stang 16:41, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That seems like the best solution for now. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 17:00, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Removed the {{Historical}}. The group is quite active. Multichill (talk) 15:35, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
