Shipping

Old film SLRs

I have one of these: File:Canon FTb QL.JPG with the original Canon 50mm 1.8 and a 135mm 2.8. These are probably so common are they even worth shipping anywhere? I will see if I can get weight and price to ship to a few countries. I think the resolution is still superior to most DSLRs if the ASA is low and the scanner good. The cost of pictures could be lowered if no prints are made and the negatives are scanned directly. Nothing to laugh at, but we should consider if analog film and its processing is still possible in each place of the world and when combined with the operational and shipping cost, it doesn't become a poisoned gift. --Foroa (talk) 08:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Of course the person to recieve the cam should be chosen carefully, but I think that would be true for almost any kind of equipment. Just an example: If I would send my old AA-battery charger from Germany to the US it might be completely useless there (230V/50Hz vs. 120V/60Hz). --El Grafo (talk) 08:38, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

I don't have a scale and don't know what size box I can stuff it in but I used my Canada post link above. 10x10x10 inches and 9 pounds = 60CDN to 80CDN to just about anywhere. Donations ?

US technology pool

It would be great if we could have a technology pool in the US, where users can lend their cameras/lenses to others in need of them. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 09:48, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Seems like something for individual US chapters to consider (US-wide seems too broad for a pool). Such programs should of course be encouraged, and listed here somewhere (maybe on a subpage). Rd232 (talk) 21:48, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

I live in Canada. I have seen photography clubs, schools, colleges, and universities, etc. that have equipment free for use. If you sign up for a course or get a club membership those costs may be cheaper than buying or renting. I have seen rental companies and clubs as well. Other places like museums, newspapers, libraries may have sign out equipment as well. Social(?) clubs like Rotary, Lions, Elks, Legion, etc. may have purchased as well. Depending on your area you could create a club and try to get funding from governments, charities, museums, etc. to finance equipment. --Canoe1967 (talk) 04:07, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

WMF input

I seem to remember the WMF stating they need places to spend money. For those that lose out on getting these nice donations can we have them fund shipping, batteries, memory cards etc? If a camera is offered and more than one apply I feel they may be able to fund a second place/runner up camera for those than were nominated but didn't get one. Create a committee for this perhaps.
