Why was this closed as delete? In addition to the impression that WMF legal councul, w:Mike Godwin, sees no basis for deletion, the community had raeached no consensus for delete: I count 17 keeps, 11 deletes, and 6 neutral comments. Further, this batch delete target photos which are most likely free, such as my photo of w:The Defuser (who is not a fictional copyrighted character, but a real person!) Before we file an undeletion request, it would be good to hear the rationale for why the consensus and legal advice of Mike was ignored; I am also @ing Mike and asking him to post a specific comment here (since we were relying on interpretation of his posts and not on his direct statement). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 21:32, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do not see a legal justification for removing the images we are discussing here. It is common for photographers to take pictures of people in costumes of copyrighted and/or trademarked characters. In general, such photographs are understood as lawful.

I believe the deletion of the photographs you were talking about was unnecessary, and that this represents a too-conservative worldview with regard to the applicability of copyright and other intellectual property theory.
