Question

Is this for commons or for the English Wikipedia? The intro seems to say for en:wp ... maybe a copy with some loose ends?... ++Lar: t/c 23:20, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Commons only, and seems to have been fixed. AWB uses a local checkpage on each wiki and (iirc) doesn't need authorisation at all if there's no Checkpage. --Kingboyk 23:40, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Rule of thumb

Rule as users with fewer than 500 edits in the article namespace is very strange.

  1. There is no atricle namespace in WikiCommons.
  2. I think, that (Gallery) is not alternative for (Article) in Commons, and the Image namespace is basis for Wikicommons.

Request for access

I would like to use AWB on Commons to recategorize some images. Would someone please add me to the checklist? —Scott5114 17:25, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Categories are a very touchy subject on commons. We have a bot that does recategorizations and you can add requests here or just ask any admin. Yonatan talk 17:40, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

What do you plan to use AWB for here? -- Editor at Largetalk 17:25, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
I use the tool on the English Wikipedia (where I am an admin) all the time, and am familiar with its usage. Honestly, it's handy, and once one uses it, it's hard to work without it. Specifically, I prefer to use it for completing categories, where I find stray images and add them into their proper category. Schuminweb 13:32, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Request to have AWB enabled

I'm requesting to have User:L_PBot enabled for AWB. I've used AWB previously on swedish wikipedia under the same bot name. Edits there can be seen here. Lates edits on that list are using pywiki though for AWB related stuff see [1]/Lokal_Profil 23:19, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Until this is sorted I'll use pywiki do do the things I would have preferred to do with AWB. /Lokal_Profil 10:49, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Request

I'm planning to use AWB to fix source links in NOAA Photolib images, such as in Image:Sargocentron ensifer.jpg. NOAA changed the directory where images are stored, so the new source link is [2] instead of [3] ("fish" and others -> "htmls"). Because there are more then 150 images on Commons to be fixed that way, I request to be enabled for AWB. I'm also already an AWB enabled user on en.wiki [4]. --Bricktop 06:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Request for addition to list

Hi, I would like to request permission to use AWB on Commons. Whilst I don't have the 500 edits of the rule of thumb, I am an experienced user of AWB over on the English Wikipedia where I'm administrator. I've also run a bot account w:User:AdambroBot using AWB with no problems. Adambro 15:39, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

What do you plan to use it for? -- Bryan (talk to me) 18:47, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Initially, my intention is to add my photographs to a user gallery category to make it easier to organise them. I'm sure I'll find other situations where it would be useful though and would ensure that any changes conform to the guidelines and are uncontroversial, as I have done on many occasions on the English Wikipedia. Adambro 20:04, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Seems that you can be trusted enough. However, I would strongly recommend to think twice before you do category moves. Remember that even a move from xx from yy to xx of yy can be controversial here in Commons! -- Bryan (talk to me) 20:24, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I've added my non admin ID to the approved list. It's not actually a bot (yet) but I do plan to use it for some mass edits of various sorts. Nothing major really, and certainly not moving categories around! ++Lar: t/c 21:00, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Request for AWB

I would like access for AWB in commons. This is to enable me to reformat my image pages on my own photographs. I used commons helper to move the images from enwiki, but would like to change the date format, etc, in the infomation template. I do not intend to use AWB for anything else here until I am a lot more experienced with Commons. I do not have 500 edits on Commons, but am a experienced user on enwiki, where I am approved to use AWB (en:Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage#Approved Users). • Rocket000 (talk · contributions · Statistics) I'm already on the "Approved users" list and would like to be move to the bot list. I'm an admin here but I didn't know if it would be cool to move myself. I would like the automatic mode for non-controversial category renames (e.g. plural -> singular names) and when category redirects start filling up. Thanks. Rocket000 21:52, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
    • I suggest you get a bot account, and add that to it. Majorly (talk) 22:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
      • I'm going to use the auto mode very rarely - most of the time I will still operate AMB by hand. I'm not asking for a bot flag, but I have no problem creating another account if it's necessary. Rocket000 22:25, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
        • Please do create another account for automated purposes that are not going to show up in RC. Bot accounts are there for a reason. 哦,是吗?(O-person) 03:32, 09 January 2008 (GMT)
          • Ok, I made a bot, but I'm still not sure I should have a bot flag as I would like to be able to switch between auto and semi-auto mode with out changing accounts. I don't know, maybe I should just stick to mindlessly clicking "Save" :) I guess I could reserve this bot account for when there's like 20+ pages to edit and it's worth changing accounts for the auto feature. BTW, should I do a formal flag request even though I'm not proposing running any new scripts and/or new processes (CommonsDelinker)? Rocket000 05:30, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
            • Yes, I think you should do a formal request if you plan on wanting to use it automatically. Thanks. Majorly (talk) 15:30, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
              • Even for AWB? I use my alternate account Larbot (talk · contributions · Move log · Statistics · logs · block log) for AWB work here and on en: and elsewhere and never got a bot flag, it's not truly automated, it's more semiautomated, I always check before I hit save... ++Lar: t/c 01:09, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
                • Any RC watcher will tell you that they would prefer even semi automated edits to be be bot flagged. While accepting that you don't just say "yes" to all reqs an admin (I suppose even a steward) using something like AWB (which is tried and tested) should be flagged very quickly. The other side is I have an aversion to the idea that an admin "could" run AWB on an admin account (& do real damage) - unacceptable to me without real community support. Link to edit counter

{{Editprotected}} The CheckPage says that edit counts can be checked through a tool on the toolserver, but it can also be checked now in Special:Preferences, so I think it should link there instead. —Zachary talk 08:37, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I disagree. The one on preferences cannot be viewed by anyone other than the user. Majorly (talk) 08:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
It says "You can check your edit count through this tool". If someone's checking their own edits, then they can just do it from the Preferences page. —Zachary talk 10:00, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
The preferences one is wrong, anyhow. Majorly (talk) 10:49, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, the preferences count is more correct than the toolserver count. Special:Preferences includes deleted edits, which should still count as edits to the wiki. —Zachary talk 11:39, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I guess we could add for when the server is down (like now), but the user should know what we're going to see. We will go by the toolsever count. (I agree deleted edits should count, but I'm not aware of a better method.) Rocket000 03:29, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
