Welcome to the guide for Oregonians (and visitors of Oregon) participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States. See the national event page for more information!
Oregon is a coastal U.S. state in the Pacific Northwest known for its diverse landscape of forests, mountains, farms, beaches and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The city of Portland is famed for its quirky, avant-garde culture and is home to iconic coffee shops, boutiques, farm-to-table restaurants and microbreweries. Highlights include Crater Lake National Park, the Native American art in the Portland Art Museum, the Japanese Garden and the Lan Su Chinese Garden. Oregon's history is illustrated through many preserved historic sites and districts. Our goal with this project is to help document these sites through photographs. As a side-bonus to this project, we will also be working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of historic sites in Oregon.

National Register of Historic Places[edit]
The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the federal government's official list of historic places that are deemed worthy of presentation. Wikipedia has all of Oregon's NRHP listings sorted by county, of which there are over 1,400 across Oregon's 36 counties. A very good chunk of these are already photographed - but some are still missing, and some can use better photos or photos taken from new angles.

Local historic sites and districts[edit]
In addition to districts denoted by the federal government, many localities in Oregon maintain their own historic sites, landmarks, and districts that aren't designated by the NRHP. Explore whether any local cities by you have their own historic designations separate from the NRHP, and communicate with your local historic societies!

In addition to historic sites recognized by the federal and state governments, many localities also maintain their own lists of historic sites, landmarks, and districts. Explore whether any local cities by you have their own lists of historical sites (often maintained by local historic societies).
